NCP-SP Working President and MP Supriya Sule has demanded that Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar be sent on compulsory leave following the hooch tragedy that claimed 16 lives due to illicit liquor consumption. She highlighted a report from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, stating that Pune ranks as the top city for crime in Maharashtra and fifth nationwide, emphasizing the breakdown of law and order in Pune. Sule stressed the need for immediate action to prevent such crimes, criticizing the government for failing to address the escalating criminal activities.
Elaborating further, Sule pointed out the political landscape, taking a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its transformation. She questioned the BJP’s slogan of ‘Congress-mukt Bharat’ (Congress-free India) by highlighting the significant presence of former Congress members within the BJP leadership in Ahilyanagar district. Sule raised concerns about the lack of substantial change in the political scenario despite promises of transformation, questioning the absorption of Congress members into the BJP ranks.
Expressing worry for sidelined BJP loyalists, Sule questioned the fate of dedicated party workers who have been marginalized over time. She specifically mentioned Prakash Javadekar and his absence from the forefront, raising doubts about the significance of political ideology and merit in the current political landscape. Sule emphasized the need for recognizing and valuing long-time party supporters who have contributed significantly to the party’s growth.
Addressing internal conflicts within the party, Sule distanced herself from the ongoing disputes between Parth Pawar and Chhagan Bhujbal’s factions. However, she highlighted allegations of corruption raised by a contractor from Bhujbal’s department regarding biased awarding of supply contracts. Sule announced her intention to write a formal letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging him to investigate the alleged corruption and safeguard taxpayers’ money.
