The NCP Working President, Praful Patel, refrained from discussing the ongoing merger debate within the party, emphasizing his focus on the current party structure. Patel stated that decisions regarding the party’s future direction lie with the existing leadership and will be handled internally. Leaders from the Sharad Pawar camp had suggested a potential merger, with meetings held to discuss a reunion between the factions led by Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar.
Patel clarified his role as the Working President in managing the party’s transition following Ajit Pawar’s passing. He highlighted the need for strong leadership during this period, mentioning his responsibility alongside Sunil Tatkare, the Maharashtra State President. The party leadership met with Sunetra Pawar and Parth Pawar to offer support, with Sunetra Pawar accepting the Deputy Chief Minister’s post following discussions.
Regarding the National President’s position, Patel explicitly stated that he is not a contender for the role. He explained that while he is focused on current duties, the appointment of a National President requires formal procedures and consensus among party members. Patel responded to comments from MNS chief Raj Thackeray and Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on the succession of the National President, asserting that the decision will be made internally without external influence.
