The National Commission for Women (NCW) has intervened in the case of a 21-year-old woman from Rajkot, Gujarat, who died under suspicious circumstances. Allegations of prolonged physical, psychological, and financial exploitation, including claims of forced hysterectomy, have prompted the NCW to direct immediate action by the state police. The Commission termed the incident as “extremely serious and heartbreaking” following media reports raising concerns about the circumstances leading to the woman’s death.
The NCW highlighted allegations of long-term exploitation faced by the deceased, Nandini Bosamiya, and the claim that she was coerced into undergoing a hysterectomy. Concerns were further heightened by a final message reportedly shared by the woman before her death and the scene’s circumstances. In response, the Commission has written to the Director General of Police (DGP) G.S. Malik, urging swift and effective measures, including the registration of an FIR and the arrest of all accused individuals promptly.
The NCW has called for a thorough investigation into the alleged forced hysterectomy, emphasizing scrutiny of the medical facility and personnel involved. Additional directives include a comprehensive forensic post-mortem examination by expert doctors, probing into the financial exploitation allegations, and recovering any related assets or funds. The Commission has also requested a review of a previous complaint filed in Junagadh and an assessment of any institutional shortcomings in handling the case.
The case, which gained significant attention after the woman’s death in Rajkot, has sparked demands for a detailed inquiry. Family members have alleged harassment by a man with whom the woman was in a relationship, along with previous complaints of threats and abuse. While the police initially treated the incident as an accidental death and initiated an investigation, family members suspect foul play and have urged a comprehensive probe into the circumstances surrounding her demise. The NCW emphasized the gravity of the allegations, stressing the need for a swift, unbiased, and time-bound investigation.
