The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognisance of the recent rape and murder of a minor girl in Pune. The NCW strongly condemned the heinous crime, emphasizing the need for ensuring the safety of young girls and the strictest punishment for the perpetrators. The Commission has urged immediate action by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights in monitoring the case.
The brutal incident, where a four-year-old girl was sexually assaulted and murdered by a 65-year-old man in Pune’s Nasrapur area, has sparked widespread outrage. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has promised death penalty for the perpetrator and criticized over the law and order situation. The accused lured the girl to a cattle shed, raped her, and then murdered her with a stone.
Chief Minister Fadnavis has condemned the act as a “blot on humanity” and directed the police to ensure a thorough investigation. The accused, with a history of similar charges, was arrested promptly after the crime was revealed through CCTV footage. The opposition parties have criticized the government for failing to protect women and children and demanded stringent action against the culprit.
Following protests, senior police officials are overseeing the investigation to avoid any loopholes in the case. Political leaders and community members have expressed deep grief and anger over the incident, calling for swift justice and stringent punishment for the accused.
