New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal spearheaded a tree planting initiative at BD Park in B.K. Dutt Colony as part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. Chahal engaged with resident welfare associations and locals under the “Good Governance at Your Doorstep” program, emphasizing swift resolution of public concerns.
Chahal highlighted that the ongoing “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, now in its 31st week, aims to mobilize public involvement in environmental preservation. Alongside the weekly efforts, NDMC is conducting extensive tree planting activities in partnership with universities, embassies, and other entities to enhance green cover in New Delhi.
Acknowledging the community’s active participation, Chahal lauded Team NDMC’s dedication in fostering a greener and cleaner capital. Various individuals and organizations, including RWA President Harbans Dunkal and representatives from different associations, joined the event to plant saplings in honor of their mothers, underscoring the emotional and environmental significance of the initiative.
The “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, inspired by Prime Minister Modi, promotes the symbolic gesture of planting a tree to honor one’s mother, fostering a sense of shared responsibility towards nature. Chahal stressed that beyond planting, ensuring the sustained growth and well-being of trees is vital, urging citizens to actively nurture the saplings they plant for a sustainable future.
Highlighting the NDMC’s commitment to environmental stewardship, Chahal announced a year-long Green Calendar featuring weekly tree planting drives across New Delhi. Departments across various sectors will collaborate to ensure the proper maintenance and growth of the newly planted trees, reflecting a holistic approach towards urban greenery.
During the event, community representatives raised local issues, prompting immediate discussions and resolutions led by Chahal and relevant department heads. These initiatives align with the vision of a developed India by 2047, emphasizing a clean environment, robust civic infrastructure, and public engagement as foundational elements of national progress.
