The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has ramped up rescue and relief operations in various parts of Maharashtra due to continuous heavy rainfall causing landslides, waterlogging, and transport disruptions. The Western Naval Command is on high alert and ready to support the state administration as needed. In Pune’s Maval tehsil, a hillside collapse in Patan village trapped a family under debris, with one body recovered and two still missing.
Amid challenging weather, a 30-member NDRF team is conducting search operations in Pune. In a separate incident near Ghorawadi Railway Station, the NDRF’s 5th Battalion rescued 37 passengers stranded in a waterlogged private bus. Maharashtra’s Disaster Management Minister has cautioned against unnecessary outings due to the severe weather conditions, with roads and railway routes closed, and a red alert issued for heavy rainfall and storms.
The minister emphasized the risks of the weather, with wind speeds causing tree uprooting in Mumbai. Despite warnings, people are urged to avoid outdoor gatherings. Red alerts have been issued for various areas, with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation reiterating the warnings for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The India Meteorological Department predicts wind speeds of 80 to 90 km/h in the region.
