Renowned costume designer Neeta Lulla recently revealed the challenges she faced while creating the iconic white outfit worn by late star Sridevi in the song “Kabhi Main Kahan Hoon” from the 1991 film “Lamhe.” Lulla described it as one of the most difficult costumes she has ever stitched, emphasizing the intricate details that went into crafting Sridevi’s ethereal look.
In a video shared on Instagram, Lulla explained the complexities of working with a seemingly simple white dress, highlighting the meticulous process involved in bringing the outfit to life for the film. She disclosed that she used white georgette chiffon sarees to create the dress’s volume, along with a layer of chiffon underneath to ensure a seamless finish.
Having worked on over 300 films and styled numerous Bollywood celebrities, including Sridevi, Juhi Chawla, and Shah Rukh Khan, Lulla shared insights into the creative process behind the iconic outfit. She also mentioned using scarves for the belt and praised Sridevi for elegantly carrying off the off-shoulder top featured in the ensemble.
Reflecting on the filming experience in Switzerland, Lulla expressed surprise at the final look of the outfit and credited director Yash Chopra for capturing stunning shots that resonated with audiences. The designer’s attention to detail and craftsmanship in creating Sridevi’s white costume exemplified the dedication required to produce timeless and visually captivating costumes for the silver screen.
