In a recent incident in Hyderabad, a Nepali gang targeted an elderly couple, robbing them of 70 tolas of gold and other valuables. The robbery took place at Golf Enclave, Kowkur, where the gang, including a Nepali couple and their associates, tied up a retired professor and his doctor wife, drugged them, and fled with the loot. The crime, which occurred on May 11, was discovered after the couple regained consciousness and sought help.
The gang, who had been hired as domestic servants by the family about 20 days prior, gained the trust of the victims and used a birthday celebration as a ruse to carry out the robbery. They disabled CCTV cameras, damaged hard disks, and restrained the couple before making off with the stolen items. Following the incident, the Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate has deployed six special teams to apprehend the culprits.
Authorities are investigating the possibility that the suspects have fled to Delhi and may have further escaped to Nepal. This incident comes amidst ongoing investigations into the murder of Tanuja Ranjan, the wife of retired IPS officer Vinay Ranjan Ray, by another Nepali maid and her accomplices. The police are actively pursuing leads to capture the perpetrators, who are believed to be hiding in Pune. Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar has cautioned against hiring Nepali domestic workers due to their involvement in similar criminal activities in various cities.
