Chandra Kumar Bose, the great-grandson of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, has switched allegiance from the BJP to the Trinamool Congress. His formal entry into the party took place at Trinamool Bhavan in the presence of state minister Bratya Basu and party MP Kirti Azad, who presented him with the Trinamool flag. Bose expressed his disillusionment with the BJP after facing questions about his citizenship during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearing.
Chandra Bose’s decision to join the Trinamool comes ahead of the Assembly elections. He acknowledged his past error of joining the BJP, stating, “A few years ago, I made a historic mistake by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party. I have corrected that mistake today.” In 2016, he had joined the BJP in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah but distanced himself from the party following the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
Reflecting on his shifting political stance, Bose criticized the BJP’s approach, saying, “The Bharatiya Janata Party does not respect the constitution of the country. Moreover, they have no similarity with the culture of Bengal.” He highlighted his admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi initially but expressed disappointment with the party’s direction. Bose also emphasized the importance of combating divisive politics, urging Mamata Banerjee to lead the fight against such tendencies.
