Chief Minister-designate Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the composition of the new Assam Council of Ministers will be decided on Tuesday morning, just before the swearing-in ceremony of the BJP-led NDA government. Sarma mentioned that the names of the ministers will be disclosed only on the morning of the ceremony, keeping BJP leaders and alliance partners uninformed until then.
He further stated that the allocation of ministerial positions would be confirmed post the approval from the BJP’s central leadership. BJP national president Nitin Nabin is already in Guwahati, engaging in discussions with Sarma and other senior party members regarding the government’s formation.
There are speculations in political circles suggesting that only a few ministers might take oath alongside Sarma initially, with the rest being inducted into the Council of Ministers after a week to ten days. However, Sarma has not confirmed these reports and assured that the final decision will be communicated on Tuesday morning.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Veterinary College Playground in Guwahati’s Khanapara area. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, former BJP president J.P. Nadda, and other Union ministers and Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states are expected to attend the event.
