The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) in Ahmedabad has inaugurated a new Aviation Fuel Station with an 8,000-kilolitre (KL) storage capacity. This addition aims to enhance fuel handling capabilities to accommodate the growing passenger traffic and flight operations at the airport.
The newly operational facility is set to boost refuelling reliability and operational efficiency for airlines. It is anticipated to play a vital role in supporting the future expansion of air connectivity from Gujarat. Moreover, this development reinforces Ahmedabad’s status as a key aviation hub by increasing storage capacity and encouraging greater involvement of oil marketing companies in jet fuel supply.
The Aviation Fuel Station, spanning nearly 27,000 square meters, features four storage tanks with a total capacity of 8,000 KL. Additionally, it is equipped with a fleet of 17 refuellers to facilitate swift aircraft refuelling operations. Plans are underway to introduce two more high-capacity refuellers to further enhance operational capabilities.
Advanced fuel filtration and quality-control systems have been integrated into the facility to ensure a clean and safe fuel supply meeting international standards. The inclusion of automated systems with RFID technology enables real-time monitoring and enhances operational accuracy. Furthermore, the fuel farm incorporates fire safety and emergency response infrastructure aligned with global standards to ensure the safe handling and storage of aviation fuel.
The commissioning of this new facility signifies a significant upgrade to the airport’s aviation infrastructure. It is expected to streamline operations for airlines, thereby catering to the increasing demand for air travel in the region. Situated in Gujarat’s largest city, the airport serves as the state’s busiest aviation gateway, managing a substantial volume of passenger traffic and air traffic movements daily.
