The Paralympic Committee of India launched the second edition of the New Delhi World Para Athletics Grand Prix, scheduled from March 11 to 13. The event, held at Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium, will see 257 athletes from eight countries participating in a major international para athletics competition. India leads with around 219 athletes across various track and field categories.
Several renowned Indian para athletes, including Mariyappan Thangavelu, Sumit Antil, and Praveen Kumar, are expected to compete. The lineup also includes Ajeet Singh, Devendra Singh Gurjar, Ankur Dhama, Simran, and Preeti Pal, who made history at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
Devendra Jhajharia, the president of the Paralympic Committee of India, highlighted the event’s significance in enhancing India’s presence in global para sports. World Para Athletics President Paul Fitzgerald expressed excitement about the Grand Prix’s return to New Delhi and its role in preparing athletes for future competitions.
Sminu Jindal emphasized the importance of accessibility in sports and public life, noting the potential of para athletes to boost India’s medal tally in international events. Svayam conducted an accessibility review of the venue and facilitated customized transport arrangements for smooth mobility.
The New Delhi 2026 World Para Athletics Grand Prix aims to strengthen India’s position in the global para sports arena by fostering inclusive sporting environments and promoting accessible infrastructure.
