Senior IPS officer Mukesh Singh has arrived in Imphal to take over as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur on June 1. He will succeed Rajiv Singh, who has been appointed as Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat. Before this, Mukesh Singh served as the DGP of Ladakh.
Rajiv Singh, a 1993-batch IPS officer, will be taking on the role of Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh extended his best wishes to Mukesh Singh for his new responsibility, expressing confidence in his ability to maintain peace and public safety in Manipur. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved Mukesh Singh’s transfer to Manipur for a three-year term.
Mukesh Singh, an IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, is a B.Tech graduate from IIT Delhi and joined the IPS in 1996. He has previously served in sensitive assignments in Jammu and Kashmir. Rajiv Singh, the outgoing DGP of Manipur, has been serving since June 1, 2023, and played a crucial role during a period of ethnic violence in the state. The appointment of a new DGP comes at a time when efforts are ongoing to restore normalcy and strengthen law and order in Manipur.
