The Centre has recently launched the SHE-LEAPS digital initiative to empower rural women, with a focus on creating 6 crore ‘Lakhpati Didis’. This platform aims to support women in Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across rural India by facilitating enterprise creation and performance tracking. It caters to both farm and non-farm rural enterprises, contributing to the development of a sustainable rural economy.
SHE-LEAPS will play a crucial role in the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ mission by digitally monitoring income growth and enterprise performance. The government plans to allocate Rs 10 lakh crore over the next five years to benefit these women, showcasing a strong commitment to women’s empowerment. The newly launched mobile application is an essential component of this initiative, designed to promote enterprise expansion on a large scale.
Launched on June 29, 2026, at the Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Sammelan in New Delhi, SHE-LEAPS will be implemented in 34 states and UTs. It will work in collaboration with State Rural Livelihood Missions to capture real-time enterprise data, enhancing visibility into rural economic activities. This system will improve monitoring capabilities at various levels, aiding in local and national decision-making processes.
By fostering enterprise growth and financial inclusion, SHE-LEAPS is set to advance the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ mission nationwide. It represents a significant stride towards inclusive and sustainable rural transformation, leveraging digital infrastructure, entrepreneurship, and women’s empowerment for economic progress.
