Newly appointed Public Education and Library Minister Gouri Shankar Ghosh announced that frivolous books authored by former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will no longer be housed in government libraries. The minister emphasized a shift towards books with a nationalist focus, replacing what he deemed as non-serious and meaningless content.
Ghosh highlighted the importance of remembering figures like Syama Prasad Mookerjee and ensuring their works are preserved in libraries. He criticized the previous government for its alleged dictatorial approach and stated that books by prominent nationalist figures will be prioritized. Additionally, plans include the establishment of an e-library using digital technology.
Recently, BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya raised concerns about distorted history being taught in school textbooks, advocating for a revision to emphasize India’s rich heritage. This sentiment aligns with calls from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders to address historical inaccuracies and promote nationalism. The BJP aims for substantial changes in Bengal’s education policies and curriculum to enhance the quality of the state’s education system.
