Fancy a day or half a day in jail to understand prison life firsthand? A new Hyderabad museum, inaugurated by Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, offers the ‘Jail Anubhavam (Feel the Jail Experience).’ Visitors can experience prison food, living conditions, and daily routines for a fee. The initiative aims to raise awareness about prison life, lawful conduct, human values, and social responsibility.
Citizens can opt for a structured 24-hour/12-hour paid prison experience, including accommodation, food, discipline, routines, and activities. The program, launched by the Prisons Department, focuses on education, empathy, awareness, and understanding of correctional systems and inmate rehabilitation. The Telangana Prisons Museum, part of this initiative, showcases the evolution of prisons from ancient punishment systems to modern correctional practices.
The museum features thematic galleries, recreated jail structures, historical artifacts, and sections on prison reforms and rehabilitation. It also documents the contribution of prisons and inmate labor during the construction of the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam. The Telangana Prisons Museum, the fifth of its kind in India, marks a significant milestone in correctional administration. It highlights the transformation of prisons from punitive institutions to centers of correction, rehabilitation, and human dignity.
