A Ring Gantry-based Linear Accelerator has been installed at the Department of Radiation Oncology at Army Hospital Research & Referral in Delhi to enhance cancer care services. This advancement aims to provide improved access to advanced radiotherapy for serving personnel, veterans, and their dependents. The new equipment is expected to boost the in-house treatment capacity to cater to the significant patient load at the hospital.
The newly commissioned Linear Accelerator is equipped to deliver modern radiotherapy techniques, including Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy, Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy, and Image-Guided Radiation Therapy. It also offers Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy and Stereotactic Radiosurgery. This technology allows for precise delivery of radiation to tumor sites while minimizing exposure to surrounding normal tissues, thereby enhancing treatment outcomes and patient care.
The procurement of this advanced Linear Accelerator within the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) represents a significant upgrade from the previous equipment that has now been decommissioned. This development signifies a step towards the modernization of oncology services within AFMS. The statement further mentions that other oncology centers under AFMS are also undergoing upgrades in a phased manner.
