Rathindra Bose, the new Speaker of the West Bengal Assembly, has approved the resolution of the new block within Trinamool Congress, recognizing it as the official party block and the principal opposition in the Assembly. Earlier, 58 out of 80 Trinamool Congress legislators, led by Ritabrata Banerjee, submitted a resolution seeking recognition for the new block.
The Speaker accepted the resolution as over two-thirds of Trinamool Congress legislators supported the new block. Additionally, Ritabrata was nominated as the Leader of the Opposition, with three Deputy Leaders of the Opposition and a Chief Whip appointed for the new block.
Rooms designated for opposition MLAs and the Leader of the Opposition were opened, and the keys were handed over. Ritabrata Banerjee mentioned that the new block now has 58 members, with expectations to reach 60 soon.
He also called on former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to advise the new block, emphasizing no connection with Mamata Banerjee’s nephew, Abhishek Banerjee. The resolution acknowledged Mamata Banerjee as the party’s supreme leader.
