New Zealand Cricket has announced a well-balanced squad for the upcoming series in India, including new faces like Jayden Lennox and Kristian Clarke alongside experienced players such as Devon Conway and Mitchell Santner. Lennox, a left-arm orthodox bowler, has earned his first call-up to the Black Caps squad for the one-day series. The squad selection aims to prepare the team for the upcoming T20 World Cup, with a mix of emerging talents and seasoned players.
Lennox will join the ODI squad, which also features uncapped players like Kristian Clarke, Adi Ashok, Josh Clarkson, Nick Kelly, and Michael Rae. Black Caps Head Coach Rob Walter expressed satisfaction with Lennox’s progress through the high-performance system, highlighting his consistent performance in white-ball cricket domestically. Kyle Jamieson and Mitchell Santner are set to play significant roles in the upcoming series, with Jamieson returning to both the one-day and T20 sides.
During the one-day series, Michael Bracewell will captain the team in Santner’s absence, supported by experienced leaders like Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, Will Young, and Henry Nicholls. Test captain Tom Latham and bowler Matt Henry will miss the ODI series due to personal reasons and injury rehabilitation, respectively. The squad will also see the absence of players like Nathan Smith, Blair Tickner, and Mark Chapman due to ongoing recovery plans.
The series in India will be crucial for New Zealand’s preparations for the T20 World Cup, as Head Coach Rob Walter emphasized the significance of exposing the team to subcontinent conditions. Players like Chapman and Henry are set to return for the T20 series after recovering from injuries. Batters Bevon Jacobs and Tim Robinson have been included in the T20 squad based on their impressive domestic performances.
The squad also features returning players like James Neesham and Ish Sodhi, while newly IPL-contracted players Jacob Duffy and Zak Foulkes have earned their spots. Additional players like Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne, Finn Allen, and Tim Seifert will join the squad in India after completing their franchise commitments. The T20 World Cup Squad is expected to be announced in mid-January.
