A brilliant performance by Amelia Kerr, scoring 105 runs and taking two wickets, led New Zealand to a convincing 92-run victory over South Africa in the fifth WT20I at Hagley Oval. Batting first, New Zealand set a formidable target of 194/6, with Kerr’s century being the highlight of their innings.
Kerr’s aggressive innings, supported by contributions from Georgia Plimmer and Brooke Halliday, propelled New Zealand to a competitive total. Despite Ayabonga Khaka’s three wickets for South Africa, New Zealand finished strongly, nearing the 200-run mark.
In response, South Africa struggled to build partnerships, losing wickets at regular intervals. Annerie Dercksen was the top scorer with 23 runs, but the team faltered against New Zealand’s disciplined bowling attack. Kerr’s all-round performance, including two wickets, along with contributions from Sophie Devine, Lea Tahuhu, and Flora Devonshire, ensured South Africa fell short at 102/9.
