In Tamil Nadu, the spirit of active citizenship was on display as newly-married couples participated in the Assembly elections. In Chennai, a newlywed pair donned traditional wedding clothes to vote, attracting attention at the polling station. The Election Commission of India praised their act on social media, underlining the importance of voting in strengthening democracy.

Similar scenes unfolded in Ramanathapuram, where two newly-married couples also voted in wedding attire. The ongoing elections cover all 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu, with a current voter turnout of 37.56 percent. The main contest is between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance, with other parties like NTK and TVK also in the mix.

Voting commenced early under tight security, with officials reporting a steady flow of voters. By 11 a.m., the voter turnout had reached 37.56 percent, indicating active participation. Election authorities are ensuring a smooth and peaceful voting process throughout the day.
