The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has requested action taken reports from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Jalna district administration, and the Maharashtra Police. This request follows allegations that minor children were made to perform to an extremist Pakistani song during an annual day function at a school in Maharashtra’s Jalna district. Acting on a complaint, the NHRC has directed the authorities to investigate and submit reports within two weeks.
According to the complaint received by the NHRC, the incident took place at Kids World English School in Partur, Jalna district. The complaint stated that minor children were made to perform to an extremist Pakistani song that promoted violence, with a background display of terrorist Mumtaz Qadri. The complainant also alleged that after raising the issue as a journalist, the school administration and Jalna Police initiated a retaliatory campaign against him.
The NHRC noted that the allegations raised seem to violate the human rights of the victims. In response, the NHRC has instructed the CBSE Chairman, District Magistrate, and Superintendent of Police in Jalna to investigate the claims and provide an Action Taken Report within two weeks for review by the Commission. The complainant has sought intervention from the NHRC for a formal inquiry into the extremist content displayed during the school event and protection for investigative journalists from retaliatory actions by law enforcement.
