The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has initiated action based on media reports concerning the tragic events in Haryana and Uttarakhand. In Haryana’s Rewari district, an explosion at a chemical factory led to the death of three workers and injuries to several others. The NHRC has demanded a detailed report from the Haryana Chief Secretary and the Superintendent of Police, Rewari, within two weeks.
The explosion, transpiring on May 19 at a chemical factory in Rewari, occurred during repair work at the chilling plant, resulting in a fire and injuring six individuals. Regrettably, one of the injured workers succumbed to injuries on May 20, while the remains of two other workers were found on the factory premises. The factory, known for producing chemical products, industrial inks, and aluminum foil, had to evacuate approximately 300 employees following multiple explosions.
In a separate incident, the NHRC has also taken notice of a fire outbreak at a private hospital in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, leading to a patient’s demise. Allegedly caused by a short circuit in an air conditioner on May 20, the fire engulfed the hospital, prompting the rescue and transfer of 14 patients to a nearby medical facility. Among the patients, one female lost her life, while four others were discharged post-treatment. The NHRC has requested a comprehensive report from the Uttarakhand Chief Secretary and the Senior Superintendent of Police, Dehradun, within a fortnight.
