The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has initiated action after reports surfaced that a government school Principal in Punjab’s Moga district allegedly sexually harassed multiple girl students by inappropriate touching. The Principal reportedly threatened students with exam failure if they reported his behavior. The NHRC has demanded a detailed report from the state Chief Secretary and the Senior Superintendent of Police in Moga within two weeks.
The incident came to light when a victim informed her parents, leading to a confrontation at the school where the Principal denied the allegations. Subsequently, more students came forward with similar accusations. The Punjab School Education Department has suspended the teacher involved, following directives from Education Minister Harjot Bains based on a preliminary report by the District Education Officer (Secondary).
Education Minister Bains emphasized the government’s commitment to the safety and well-being of all students in Punjab’s government schools. He stated that any misuse of authority to intimidate or harm children would not be tolerated. An inquiry has been initiated, and if the allegations are substantiated, strict action will be taken.
