The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended two individuals in West Bengal’s Amta region regarding the 2022 bomb explosion that resulted in one fatality and three injuries. Asfar Middya and Entajul Middya, residents of Amta in Howrah (Rural), have been identified as the main suspects overseeing the illegal production of crude bombs near Chandrapur Bazar.
The incident took place on February 23, 2022, when the crude bombs accidentally detonated during assembly near Chandrapur Bazar in Howrah district. The explosion led to one death and severe injuries to four individuals involved in the manufacturing process. Investigations disclosed that the bombs were meant for intimidating and frightening the local populace.
The NIA, which assumed control of the case from local authorities in April 2024, revealed that Asfar and Entajul were managing the illicit bomb-making activities. These explosives were intended to be used for threatening and creating fear among the community. Four individuals were previously arrested and charged in connection with the case, with investigations ongoing under case RC-08-2024/NIA/DLI.
The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation by the authorities as investigations into the matter continue. More information is anticipated as the case progresses.
