The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed charges against the 23rd accused in a case involving the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and Lawrence Bishnoi gang terror nexus of 2022. Arjit Kumar, also known as Ajit, faces charges under various sections of the IPC and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. This case, initially investigated by the Special Cell of Delhi Police, was later taken over by the NIA for further examination.
Arjit Kumar is among 19 accused who are currently in custody, while three others remain at large, as confirmed by the NIA. The investigation revealed a terror conspiracy between the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and the proscribed BKI aimed at spreading terrorism in India. It was found that Arjit colluded with co-accused to assist members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in carrying out terrorist activities within India and then escaping the country.
The NIA’s probe uncovered that Arjit had played a role in fraudulently obtaining passports and visas for gang members. One of the accused, Sachin Bishnoi, and other gang affiliates utilized these forged travel documents to flee the country. Notably, the NIA had previously charged the 22nd accused, Rahul Sarkar, for aiding gang members in committing terror acts and facilitating their escape from India through the use of fake identity documents.
