The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out a raid and search operation at the home of a businessman named Ghulam Raza in Durgapur, West Bengal. The operation involved a six-member NIA team, including a female member, accompanied by a significant police presence from Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissariat. The purpose of the operation at Raza’s residence has not been disclosed by NIA officials yet.
Raza, originally from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, relocated to Durgapur with his family and lived near the Durgapur Steel Plant. He was known to travel frequently abroad for business purposes. According to neighbors, Raza and his family preferred privacy and kept to themselves rather than engaging with the local community. Further details about the raid are awaited.
In recent times, the NIA has intensified its activities in West Bengal, investigating various cases. Recently, the agency seized a significant amount of explosives in Birbhum district and made an arrest. Additionally, the NIA has been probing a blast incident in Rajarhat, Kolkata, leading to the arrest of three individuals. The West Bengal cabinet approved the establishment of an NIA Police Station in Kolkata to manage the agency’s growing workload in the state.
