The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches in multiple locations across northern Kerala districts of Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Kasaragod. This action is part of the investigation into the seizure of a large cache of explosives found in a truck earlier this year. The searches in Malappuram are related to an incident on February 7 when a truck carrying explosives was intercepted at Chemmad in Tirurangadi.
NIA teams searched two locations in Malappuram district, including a hollow-brick warehouse in Tirurangadi and a residence in Wandoor. Investigators are looking into the legal transportation of the explosives and any possible violations in their procurement, storage, or movement. The explosives were initially claimed to be intended for quarrying operations, but the circumstances raised suspicions leading to the NIA probe.
As part of the investigation, searches were also conducted in Kadumeni, Kasaragod district, at the residence and quarry premises of an individual associated with a granite quarry. Officials suspect potential links between the explosives seized in Malappuram and quarry-related activities in northern Kerala. Documents, records, and electronic devices are being scrutinized to trace the source and intended use of the explosives.
Additionally, searches were reported in Kozhikode district, although specific details were not immediately available. The coordinated searches across three districts indicate an expansion of the investigation to uncover the broader network involved in the procurement, transportation, and utilization of explosive materials. NIA officials have not yet released an official statement on the search findings, with further details expected after the examination of seized materials.
