The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has pressed charges against eight individuals, including Pakistani terrorist Shehzad Bhatti, for their involvement in the car bomb explosion at Ambala’s Baldev Nagar police station earlier this year. Bhatti, along with seven Indian nationals, has been charged under various acts such as the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, and the Explosive Substances Act, 1908. The NIA has identified the accused, including Bhatti, as part of a conspiracy to target police establishments and instill fear among the public.
The chargesheet filed by the NIA in the Special NIA Court in Panchkula, Haryana, outlines the roles played by the accused and the plot devised by Bhatti to carry out the attack on Police Station Baldev Nagar in Ambala. The investigation revealed that Bhatti had set up operational units in India and tasked local operatives with procuring logistics and explosives for targeting police facilities. Akash, described as Bhatti’s key operative in India, was responsible for coordinating the attacks with other accused individuals.
The NIA’s probe disclosed that the Baldev Nagar police station was chosen after a thorough reconnaissance of potential targets. The accused individuals had parked a car filled with gas cylinders and explosives at the police station premises, capturing the scene on video for dissemination. It was found that Bhatti had recruited and radicalized the accused using social media and encrypted platforms, maintaining contact with them during the attack planning phase.
The ongoing investigation by the NIA into the case has uncovered a network involving recruitment, financing, operational coordination, procurement of explosives, and the execution of the terrorist act under Bhatti’s directives. The agency continues to delve into the chain of events surrounding the case, shedding light on the intricate web of activities orchestrated by the accused individuals.
