The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed charges against three CPI-Maoist operatives in Visakhapatnam. The case involves the supply of explosive materials and logistical support to the banned terrorist organization’s cadres in Andhra Pradesh. The accused have been charged under various sections of the IPC, Explosive Substances Act, and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Two of the accused, Naka Devid Raj alias Daveedu and Vijay Viswas, are identified as overground workers (OGWs) of CPI (Maoist). They were apprehended by the local police while attempting to deliver explosives to the third accused, Sodi Kesa, an underground CPI (Maoist) cadre. Investigations revealed that Devid and Vijay were involved in procuring, transporting, and supplying explosive materials to Maoist cadres for attacks on security forces.
The NIA discovered that the accused had connections with CPI (Maoist) members and were aiding them to advance the organization’s malicious agenda. The agency’s probe indicated that the conspiracy aimed to enhance CPI (Maoist)’s operational capabilities in the region to disrupt national security and stability. The NIA is continuing investigations to uncover further links of the banned outfit.
In a separate case, the NIA has charged six more individuals, including three absconders, in connection with a Chhattisgarh CRPF camp attack by CPI (Maoist) cadres in 2024. The attack resulted in injuries to twelve CRPF personnel and involved Maoists armed with automatic weapons and Barrel Grenade Launchers (BGLs).
