The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted a raid at the residence of ex-Trinamool Congress MLA Saokat Molla in South 24 Parganas district. The search operation, which took place in Jibantala village in the Canning block, involved a significant presence of Central force personnel.
During the raid, it was noted that Saokat was not present at home. Instead, NIA officials questioned his son, Imran Molla, while Saokat’s wife and daughter were inside the house. The search was part of an investigation related to a recent bomb blast incident in the South Bamunia area of the same district.
The bomb blast, which occurred before the state Assembly elections, resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries. Following demands from Nawsad Siddiqui’s Indian Secular Front (ISF), the NIA took charge of the investigation. Saokat, a former Trinamool MLA, reportedly left his residence before the NIA’s arrival for the raid.
Earlier, the NIA had arrested several individuals, including Trinamool leader Wahidul Islam, in connection with the bomb blast case. Saokat, who previously represented the Canning Purba constituency, lost in the 2026 Assembly election to ISF candidate Nawsad.
