Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari revealed that his academic performance was impacted by the Emergency, resulting in him scoring 52 percent in his metric exams and 49.26 percent in science. This led to his disqualification from pursuing engineering studies. Despite this setback, Gadkari has gone on to achieve seven world records in infrastructure development.
Gadkari is set to appear on Shekhar Suman’s new late-night talk show, Shekhar Tonite. During a candid conversation, Gadkari shared how he failed to secure admission into an engineering program, a dream cherished by his family. This experience shaped his journey towards achieving remarkable feats in the infrastructure sector, earning him multiple Guinness World Records.
Reflecting on his past, Gadkari admitted, “I’ve been labeled as a ‘Doctor,’ but I wasn’t a scholarly student. In 1975, amidst family expectations for me to become an engineer, I got involved in activities against the Emergency period, which disrupted my studies. Despite scoring low in academics, today I hold seven world records in infrastructure development, spanning roads, tunnels, bridges, highways, and expressways.”
The Emergency in India, a period from 1975 to 1977, marked by a state of emergency declared by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, had a profound impact on the nation. Shekhar Suman’s show, Shekhar Tonite, created by Adhyayan Suman and produced by Dharmesh Sangani, is scheduled to premiere on May 15 on YouTube. The show aims to engage influential figures in society to address pressing issues and advocate for positive change.
