Nishant Kumar, the son of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, visited Gehlour Hills in Gayaji district to honor Dashrath Manjhi, famously known as the ‘Mountain Man’, on Valentine’s Day. During his visit, Nishant Kumar laid a garland at Manjhi’s statue, recognizing his exceptional determination and sacrifice.
Dashrath Manjhi, a daily wage laborer, spent 22 years carving a road through solid rock in the Gehlour Hills using just a hammer and chisel. This path, a testament to perseverance and human resilience, remains in use by locals, symbolizing Manjhi’s unwavering resolve.
Nishant Kumar’s first visit to the site where Manjhi accomplished his incredible feat included meeting Manjhi’s family members and seeking their blessings. Manjhi, driven by personal tragedy after his wife’s death due to lack of medical access, dedicated himself to creating a passage through the mountain to ensure others wouldn’t endure similar hardships.
Dashrath Manjhi’s legacy lives on as a symbol of determination and dedication, with his monumental effort resulting in a 360-foot long and 25-foot high passage that significantly shortened the distance between villages. Despite facing challenges and skepticism, Manjhi’s solitary endeavor brought tangible benefits to the community, showcasing his courage and persistence.
