Keeping in mind the festive season leading up to New Year’s celebrations, there will be no public rally during Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s upcoming three-day visit to West Bengal starting December 29. Sources from the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) revealed that Shah is set to arrive in Kolkata on December 29 and depart for New Delhi on the evening of December 31.
Upon his arrival in Kolkata on December 29 evening, Shah will convene a closed-door meeting with the core team of BJP leaders in West Bengal to assess the preparations for the upcoming crucial Assembly elections in the state next year. The following day, on December 30, Shah’s itinerary includes three events: an interaction with media personnel, a visit to the ISKCON temple in central Kolkata, and a trip to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office in the city to meet senior office-bearers.
Wrapping up his visit on December 31, the Home Minister is scheduled to address a workers’ conference in Kolkata to boost morale among party workers in the state gearing up for the elections. Subsequently, he will depart for New Delhi later that evening. During his discussions with the core leadership, Shah is expected to provide final recommendations on the formation of the BJP’s state committee in West Bengal and assess organizational readiness.
Additionally, Shah is likely to devise a strategy to address sensitive issues related to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the state and outline the party’s campaign approach for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, focusing on key issues to emphasize. Despite initial plans for a public rally, the BJP’s state unit decided against it due to the festive atmosphere at year-end.
