The Noida Authority informed the National Green Tribunal that it treats 260 million liters of wastewater daily but only reuses around 86 million liters, with the majority being discharged into drains. This disclosure came in response to allegations that the Authority was not recycling treated water for irrigation purposes. The treated water is primarily used for parks, green belts, wetlands, and construction activities at subsidized rates.

Placing details of eight operational sewage treatment plants on record, the Noida Authority highlighted that the treated water is also provided free of cost for horticulture, firefighting, and sprinkling purposes. Despite treating 260 MLD daily, 174 MLD is still being discharged into drains, as per the submitted affidavit. The National Green Tribunal had previously observed that less than 50% of the treated water would be utilized by the second quarter of 2026, based on the Authority’s projections.

The Noida Authority’s recent affidavit included sample analysis reports for October and November 2025, asserting that the quality of treated water meets prescribed standards. Efforts to enhance reuse are underway through pipeline projects connecting STPs in Sectors 123 and 168 to adjacent areas. Additionally, 80 MLD of treated water is designated for supply to NTPC Dadri under a 2018 memorandum of understanding, with pending issues due to NTPC’s recall proceedings on various grounds.
