North Korean troops were seen marching in Russia’s Victory Day military parade in Moscow, as shown in footage released by Russia’s Tass news agency. The soldiers paraded through Red Square carrying the North Korean national flag and a banner commemorating Russia’s Victory Day, which honors the Soviet victory in World War II. This event highlighted the strengthening military cooperation between North Korea and Russia.
The appearance of North Korean troops in Red Square was a significant moment, with North Korean Ambassador to Russia Sin Hong-chol and other officials welcoming them. This marked the first instance of North Korean soldiers marching alongside Russian troops in the annual Victory Day parade, as reported by Tass. Pyongyang had deployed approximately 15,000 combat troops to assist Russia following a strategic partnership treaty signed by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin in June 2024.
On the same day, Kim Jong-un sent a congratulatory message to President Putin on Russia’s Victory Day celebration, emphasizing North Korea’s commitment to strengthening ties with Moscow. Kim expressed his congratulations on the 81st Victory Day and praised the shared history of independence, dignity, peace, and prosperity between the two countries. He reiterated North Korea’s dedication to enhancing the comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia, as outlined in the inter-state treaty between the two nations.
