Senior officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), led by General Manager (Construction) Ashish Bansal, recently met Manipur Chief Minister Khemchand Yumnam to review the status of the crucial 111-km Jiribam–Imphal railway project. The officials updated the Chief Minister on the latest advancements and construction updates of the railway line connecting Jiribam to Imphal, the state capital.
During the meeting, Ashish Bansal and his team briefed the Chief Minister on the ongoing construction progress of the railway line, emphasizing its significance as a key infrastructure project for Manipur. The Chief Minister expressed his belief that the completion of this railway line would enhance Manipur’s transportation infrastructure, improve connectivity, and ensure a more efficient and secure supply chain, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for the region.
The state government reaffirmed its full commitment to providing necessary assistance for the timely completion of the Jiribam–Imphal railway project, which has already achieved approximately 90% physical progress, according to NFR officials. Once operational, this railway line is expected to boost tourism, drive industrial growth, create job opportunities, and contribute to the overall socio-economic development of Manipur.
Upon its completion, the Jiribam–Imphal railway project will integrate Imphal into the national railway network, making it the fifth capital city in the northeastern region to have a rail connection, following Dispur, Agartala, Itanagar, and Aizawl. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla recently visited Noney district to inspect the construction progress of the world’s highest railway pier bridge over the Ijei River, a crucial component of the railway project linking Imphal to the national railway network.
Governor Bhalla commended the dedication of the railway engineers and encouraged them to continue their diligent work for the benefit of the state’s residents, as the bridge nears completion. The bridge’s timely completion is expected to play a vital role in enhancing connectivity between the state capital and the national railway network.
