The Northeast Frontier Railway has implemented proactive measures in the Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section to prevent buffalo dashing incidents. Fencing work near major railway tunnels aims to restrict the movement of buffaloes and cattle onto the tracks, enhancing safety for train operations and livestock protection.
Fencing work of about 150 meters in length has been completed between tunnel number 16 and bridge number 262. Additional fencing near tunnel number 10 and tunnel number 12 is underway to further reduce the risk of cattle straying onto the tracks, minimizing cattle-train collisions and enhancing operational safety.
In addition to infrastructural enhancements, the Northeast Frontier Railway is conducting awareness campaigns in villages prone to buffalo-dashing incidents. These campaigns involve distributing pamphlets, displaying awareness posters, and educating residents about the dangers of cattle trespassing on railway tracks and tunnels.
The railway authorities, in collaboration with village councils and residents, are emphasizing the importance of keeping livestock away from railway premises to prevent accidents. The Northeast Frontier Railway is dedicated to ensuring safe train operations in the hill section through continuous monitoring, infrastructure improvements, and community engagement.
