Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman praised the northeastern region, calling it a hub of sustainable and inclusive development. She highlighted achievements like being the world’s first 100% organic state, having the longest bi-lane tunnel, and the tallest girder rail bridge.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal noted the transformation of the eight northeastern states from being underdeveloped to becoming India’s growth engine, filled with prosperity and potential.
In the past 12 years, the northeast has seen significant progress due to policy support, infrastructure growth, and inclusive development efforts. Improved connectivity through roads, railways, airways, and digital networks has reduced isolation and boosted economic access and regional integration.
Enhancements in water, sanitation, housing, healthcare, and education have raised living standards in both urban and rural areas, as per official reports. The region has also become a crucial part of India’s clean energy transition and Act East vision, with investments in hydropower, gas infrastructure, and cross-border connectivity.
The sustained policy backing since 2014 has led to a balanced development approach focusing on ecological sensitivity, resource efficiency, and long-term sustainability. The northeast is evolving into a gateway for opportunities and engagements, showcasing resilience and readiness for the future.
