NorthEast United FC displayed a strong performance, securing a 4-1 win against Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati. Jairo Samperio shone with two goals in the first half, complemented by an own goal and a late strike from Lalbiakdika, leading to a convincing victory for the Highlanders.

This victory propels NorthEast United FC to ninth place in the standings with 13 points from 12 matches, while Chennaiyin FC remains in 13th position with nine points from the same number of games, narrowly avoiding the relegation zone. The match kicked off energetically, with NorthEast taking the lead early on through a well-executed play by Jairo Samperio, capitalizing on a precise cross from Jithin MS.

Throughout the game, NorthEast continued to pose a threat, with notable attempts from Tondonba Singh and Thoi Singh Huidrom, while Chennaiyin struggled to create clear chances despite dominating midfield possession. The hosts further solidified their lead just before halftime, with Jairo capitalizing on a defensive error to make it 2-0 at the break.

In the second half, Chennaiyin showed more urgency, creating several opportunities, but NorthEast’s goalkeeper Gurmeet Singh stood firm, denying their attempts. NorthEast extended their lead to 3-0 in the 70th minute when a Chennaiyin defender inadvertently scored an own goal. Although Chennaiyin managed to pull one back through Laldinliana in the 81st minute, NorthEast sealed the win with Lalbiakdika’s goal in the 90th minute.
