In a significant development in Tamil Nadu’s education sector, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Ismail, a renowned soil biologist and ecologist, has resigned as Chairman of the State Curriculum Committee as per directives from the School Education Department.
Dr. Ismail, appointed by the previous DMK government to lead the committee responsible for revising the school curriculum, confirmed that he was informed by authorities about the formation of a new committee, indicating a shift in leadership for future syllabus revisions.
This change follows a recent meeting between Dr. Ismail, former School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, and DMK president M.K. Stalin to present newly developed textbooks for Classes I, II, and III, supervised by the committee.
Expressing gratitude to the previous administration for the opportunity, Dr. Ismail announced his departure via social media, acknowledging the efforts put into creating the new textbooks and expressing hope for the continuity of progressive educational initiatives under the new committee.
Officials in the Directorate of School Education have confirmed the leadership change but have not disclosed details about the composition of the upcoming committee, raising questions about the continuity of existing members under a new chairperson.
The State Curriculum Committee, instrumental in revising school textbooks and educational materials, has already introduced the new textbooks for Classes I to III, with the expectation that the formation of a new committee will shape future educational content and policy direction in Tamil Nadu.
