Notorious dacoit Jagan Gurjar, known for threatening to bomb the residence of a former Rajasthan Chief Minister in 2008, was discovered dead in Ajmer’s High-Security Prison. Gurjar, who hailed from Bhavutipura village in Dholpur district, transitioned from selling milk to a life of crime nearly thirty years ago.
In response to his 2008 threat against the Chief Minister’s residence, a reward of Rs 11 lakh was offered for information leading to his capture. Gurjar evaded authorities by hiding in the rugged ravines of the Dang region in Dholpur, frequently changing locations and seeking refuge with associates.
In a surprising turn of events in 2009, Jagan Gurjar surrendered to authorities in the presence of Congress leader Sachin Pilot. Despite his criminal past, Gurjar’s involvement in politics emerged during the 2018 Rajasthan Assembly elections when his wife, Mamta Gurjar, contested as a candidate unsuccessfully.
Teams from the Forensic Science Laboratory and the Mobile Investigation Unit are investigating Gurjar’s death in prison. Initial findings suggest he may have been strangled, with further details pending the post-mortem examination. Authorities are probing the alleged involvement of another inmate, Vishnu, in the incident.
