The mortal remains of Jagan Gurjar, a notorious dacoit who was murdered in Ajmer High-Security Jail on June 29, will be cremated in his native Bhavutipura village in Dholpur’s Dang region. Villagers and supporters gathered as his body arrived at the village early in the morning. The post-mortem report revealed that Gurjar died from severe pressure on his neck, causing a fracture of the hyoid bone.
The autopsy, conducted by a medical board, confirmed that the neck fracture and strangulation were the causes of Gurjar’s death. Internal haemorrhage in the neck’s middle portion and injuries around the trachea and oesophagus were also found. Gurjar succumbed to asphyxia within about three minutes of the assault. Gurjar’s family, who had been demanding justice, reached an agreement with the administration for the post-mortem in Ajmer before transporting the body to Dholpur for the funeral.
Jagan Gurjar’s younger brother, Pappu Gurjar, was escorted from Ajmer to Dholpur under tight security to attend the last rites. The murder of Jagan Gurjar inside the high-security prison has raised concerns about the security measures in place. The incident, where Gurjar was strangled by another inmate, Vishnu, has highlighted lapses in the prison’s security system. The non-functional CCTV camera in the cell during the attack has further questioned the surveillance and security protocols.
