The Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (NSNIS) in Patiala, an apex institute for sports coaching and education under the Sports Authority of India (SAI), will hold an international conference titled “Grassroots to Greatness: Talent Identification and Athlete Development” on February 6-7. This event aligns with India’s long-term vision for the 2036 Summer Olympic Games. The conference, a tradition started by SAI NSNIS Patiala, aims to enhance India’s athlete development ecosystem through scientific and sustainable methods.
The upcoming conference, following the success of the inaugural event themed “Harmonizing Movement: Integrating Yoga with Sports Science for Peak Performance,” is expected to draw over 550 participants from India, including coaches, sports scientists, administrators, academicians, and students. The event will feature 30+ national and international experts, making it a significant platform for knowledge-sharing in sports development in the country. Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports Smt. Raksha Nikhil Khadse will grace the two-day conference.
Distinguished international experts such as Prof. Nenad Trunic, FIBA basketball coach Richard Lee Brooks, and others will contribute to the conference. Senior coaches and officials from SAI will also actively participate, sharing their experiences in talent identification and athlete preparation. The focus will be on structured, data-driven frameworks for developing athletes from grassroots to elite levels, emphasizing holistic athlete support and well-being.
