Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi revealed plans for special Gram Sabhas to be held on December 24 in all PESA areas across the state in celebration of the National PESA Mahotsav. The event, jointly organized by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, aims to honor tribal communities in the Scheduled Areas of Odisha.
CM Majhi highlighted the significance of the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996 (PESA), emphasizing its role in bolstering grassroots democracy in tribal regions. He commended Odisha’s leading role in conducting Panchayat elections in compliance with the PESA Act, ensuring increased tribal community involvement in democratic processes.
The National PESA Mahotsav, set to involve Scheduled Areas from 10 PESA states, including Odisha, will feature Panchayat representatives, women, and youth showcasing traditional sports, dance, music, and cultural heritage during the two-day festival. Additionally, special Gram Sabhas are scheduled to take place on December 24 across all PESA areas, with the Chief Minister urging Scheduled Areas citizens to actively participate and fortify grassroots democracy.
