Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep sorrow over a youth’s killing by an angry mob in Balianta, near Bhubaneswar. He urged the police to take strict action against those involved in the crime. The Chief Minister emphasized the need to prevent such incidents of mob violence in the future and instructed the police to uphold the rule of law.
Majhi directed the Director General of Police, Y. B. Khurania, to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident, and the investigation is ongoing. Additionally, the Chief Minister engaged with the Chairperson of Odisha State Commission for Women, Sovana Mohanty, to discuss the incident and its implications.
Chairperson Mohanty is expected to visit Balianta to speak with women who alleged they were sexually abused by the deceased, Soumya Ranjan Swain. The incident unfolded when Swain and his friend encountered two girls on a scooter, resulting in a confrontation that escalated. The villagers intervened upon hearing the girls’ distress, leading to a fatal assault on Swain, who was a Government Railway Police Jawan.
