Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi initiated the first phase of the Godabarish Mishra Model Primary School (GMAPV) scheme by laying the foundation stone for 118 model primary schools across 30 districts of the state. The event took place in Banapur, Khordha district, the birthplace of Godabarish Misra, after whom the scheme is named. The Chief Minister expressed that the scheme aims to enhance students’ education foundation and contribute to a prosperous Odisha by 2036.
Under the GMAPV Scheme, 2,200 schools will be established in gram panchayats across Odisha over the next four years, with an initial investment of Rs 12,000 crore. The Chief Minister highlighted Pandit Godabarish Misra’s significant contributions as a freedom fighter, writer, and educationist, emphasizing the scheme’s potential to revolutionize Odisha’s primary education system. He mentioned a budget provision of Rs 3,000 crore for the scheme’s implementation this year.
The scheme envisions developing one primary school in each panchayat as a model primary school. The 118 schools where foundation stones were laid are set to commence operations shortly. State School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond, among other dignitaries, also lauded the scheme’s potential to bring about a transformative impact on Odisha’s education sector.
