Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his significant role in connecting with Indian nationals abroad and encouraging their involvement in India’s progress. The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention held in Bhubaneshwar in 2025 marked the 18th edition of the event, the first in eastern India, in line with the government’s ‘Purvodaya’ focus. Modi’s outreach to overseas Indians was highlighted by Majhi, emphasizing their potential in contributing to India’s growth through various means like knowledge, investment, and innovation.
Modi’s consistent support for the Indian diaspora, both during his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister and as Prime Minister, was underscored by Majhi. The Prime Minister’s approach has always recognized Non-Resident Indians as partners in the nation’s development, capable of making valuable contributions in different sectors. Majhi mentioned that Modi urged the diaspora to actively participate in promoting Odisha’s culture, handicrafts, and tourism, not only for the state but for the entire nation.
The theme of the PBD event in Odisha, “Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat,” aimed to acknowledge and strengthen the ties between Indians living abroad and their homeland. Majhi highlighted that under Modi’s leadership, efforts have been directed towards practical outcomes, aligning global talent with India’s requirements in areas like entrepreneurship, technology, and skill development. The event emphasized the ongoing significant role played by Indians worldwide in shaping India’s future trajectory.
The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is a biennial celebration that seeks to enhance the engagement of the overseas Indian community with the Indian government and reconnect them with their cultural heritage.
