Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi praised farmers as the backbone of society and the driving force behind Odisha’s economy during a state-level event for distributing PM Kisan Samman Nidhi. He highlighted the crucial contribution of farmers to the state’s advancement, stating that without their development, progress is unattainable. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently initiated the 22nd installment of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi in Assam, transferring around Rs 19,000 crore to 9.32 crore farmers nationwide.
The PM-Kisan scheme has enabled farmers to purchase agricultural essentials like seeds and fertilizers, with an annual aid of Rs 6,000 distributed in three installments. Chief Minister Majhi disclosed that over 34.24 lakh eligible farmers in Odisha received Rs 2,000 each, totaling Rs 684 crore in the latest installment released by PM Modi. He urged farmers to fulfill all necessary requirements to benefit from the scheme, including e-KYC, land record verification, and Aadhaar-bank account linking.
In addition to the PM-Kisan initiative, the State Government is implementing the CM Kisan scheme, offering Rs 4,000 to eligible farmers in two installments. More than 6 lakh new beneficiaries have been included in this scheme, benefiting over 51.54 lakh individuals, including PVTG farmers and urban farmers, with financial aid exceeding Rs 2,991 crore. Under the Krushi Vidya Nidhi scheme, children of CM Kisan beneficiaries are receiving scholarships for professional courses, with a substantial increase in scholarship assistance planned for the upcoming academic year.
Chief Minister Majhi stressed the government’s commitment to doubling farmers’ income through collaborative efforts with the Central Government. He encouraged farmers to diversify crops and remain vigilant against climate change, irregular weather patterns, water scarcity, and soil degradation.
