Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi praised the Union Cabinet’s nod for the Paradip–Haridaspur railway line doubling project, calling it a crucial step in enhancing the state’s railway infrastructure. The Chief Minister expressed thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for their support.
CM Majhi highlighted that the project’s approval signifies a significant boost to Odisha’s railway infrastructure, aiming to improve logistics efficiency and spur industrial and economic growth in the state. He emphasized that the doubling of the rail line will enhance connectivity to Paradip Port, streamline freight movement, alleviate congestion, and facilitate smoother transportation for passengers and goods.
Furthermore, CM Majhi underlined that the project aligns with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, positioning Odisha as a pivotal logistics and industrial center. He noted that the initiative will create new avenues for development and employment opportunities in the state, benefiting its overall progress.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, greenlit two significant railway projects—the doubling of the Paradip–Haridaspur rail line and the fourth rail line between Rajkharsawan and Dangoaposi—with a combined estimated cost of around Rs 3,907 crore. These projects are set to expand the Indian Railways network by approximately 145 kilometers, enhancing connectivity to numerous villages and tourist destinations, and boosting freight traffic by 44 MTPA.
